Academy Charter Earns Hard Fought Victory To Open Season

As the behemoths of basketball battle across New Jersey on opening weekend, GSBR ventured down to the Bayshore to catch a Group I matchup as Keansburg opened their season at home against visiting Academy Charter of Lake Como.

The first quarter was a hard fought battle. Academy Charter jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but the Titans came back with several drives to the basket and the score was even up at 10 after the opening quarter.

The second quarter was a close battle all the way to the break and the Titans led by a slight edge, 26 to 25 at the midway point. A’son Young led Keansburg in the first half with several slashing drives, ending the half on 8 points. Dante Lyons converted 4 free throws and had 11 points for Academy Charter in the opening two quarters.

The second half saw more of the same intensity, as both teams continued to drive to the baseline in a very well officiated game and Keansburg clinging to a 34 to 33 lead after 3.

The 4th Quarter belonged to Academy Charter as Anthony Lyons took over and led AC to a 54-47 road win to start the season.. Lyons converted 6 of 8 free throws and finished the game with 19, leading all scorers. Dante Lyons finished with 13. Keansburg showed tremendous hustle and grit and A’Shon Young led the Titans with 14. 

Up Next: Academy Charter will take on Noor-ul-Iman, while Keansburg travels to Monmouth Regional on Tuesday at 5:30 PM.
