The Olympic Conference was one of the strongest in the state from top to bottom this season, led by the National Division across the board.
Season Recap
Camden High anchored its final spot in the ReportIt rankings with a convincing victory in the state championship game. Led by 6'6" Kentucky commit Billy Richmond, the Panthers scored big win after big win over the course of the season. There's a dark cloud asterisk from the Manasquan game, but Camden got the job done in the state final with a 69-50 win over Newark Arts, another team in the ReportIt Top 25.
Fellow National Division side Paul VI had a run to the Non-Public A State Final while battling a very difficult schedule. It was a fantastic year for Tony Devlin's team as they finished 22-10, battled their way to second in the division, then capped it off with state playoff road wins at St Joe's of Metuchen and CBA before downing Union Catholic in the A-South final. When you examine their losses and recognize that 9 of 10 came to teams that spent the entirety of the season in the ReportIt Rankings, be it Top 25 or in their Classification, it's a great year.
In the American, Lenape and Eastern gave fans three games to remember and each of their fanbases memorable seasons. The two teams combined for a 54-9 record and Lenape made it to the State Group IV Final, falling to Elizabeth.
Matt Wolf's 28-4 Lenape squad was anchored by Merrimack commit Tye Dorset. The 6'2" senior guard averaged 18ppg and had a season high of 35 against Seneca. His classmate Myles Primas also had a big year and finished over 1,000 points for his career.
Kevin Crawford coached Eastern to a 26-5 record behind his own pair of 1,000 point scorers in Damien Edwards and Max Portnoy. Eastern took on an equally difficult slate and their losses came to Lenape(3X), Camden High and Camden Catholic. They were painfully close in each of the Lenape contests and should be proud of their accomplishments this winter.
Moorestown and Cherry Hill West both had 20 win seasons, Camden Catholic went 17-11 with a very young team that returns all five starters next season and Camden Eastside had a strong season as well, wrapping up what was a top tier year for the Olympic.
Player Of The Year
Billy Richmond, Camden
The 6'6" Kentucky commit was the unquestioned top player in the Olympic and in South Jersey as a whole. In their biggest games under the brightest lights, it was Richmond who put on a show at both ends of the floor, doubling his output in almost every category from last year as the "go to guy" for the Panthers this winter. His season high was 30 against Coatesville(PA).
